Boiler inspection

Boiler Inspection Services

Visual inspection of recovery and power boilers for pulp, paper, and power. The complete final report is in your hands in days, not months.

A BSI inspection is the walk through the unit and four things that come with it. The BSI punchlist. API inspection checklists, completed with our help. A developed boiler work scope for your next outage. And the complete final inspection report, in your hands in days.

Turnaround is the thing that matters most. The industry norm for a final boiler inspection report is months. A report that arrives months later is a record of what the unit looked like. A report that arrives in days is an outage planning document, and mills use it to set scope while the plan can still change.

The work behind it is visual boiler inspection. Our inspectors go inside the unit and look at every component of the boiler, top to bottom, from the penthouse down to the floor on a power boiler and the lower vestibules on a recovery unit. What goes in the report is the boiler condition that is there now, not what the last report said. BSI does not sell the repair, so there is no reason to find more work than is there and none to find less.

The bulk of BSI's work is in the United States, where most of the boilers in these industries run. Serving them is the focus, and it always has been. When a mill outside the country asks, BSI travels, but home is here.

Scope

Inspectors find the issues. QA/QC makes sure they get fixed correctly.

An inspection finds and documents every issue in the unit. Making sure those issues are repaired correctly is BSI QA/QC, when the mill uses it. QA/QC also works the punchlist, verifying that work reported complete actually is and reporting back to the mill many times per shift. Two different jobs, and mills often buy both.

What comes with an inspection.

How BSI works

Three steps, every unit.

  1. Scope the unit and history

We start with the unit, its operating history, and prior inspection records. Knowing what has failed before decides where the time goes.

  2. Inspect and document on site

Inspectors go in and work the unit section by section. Findings and photos are recorded as they are made, in the boiler, not from memory afterward.

  3. Final report in days, not months

The punchlist, the API checklists, the next-outage work scope, and the final report come back as one package, in days. Every report is reviewed before it is released, and that review happens inside the same window.

Why BSI

What the mill is actually buying.

The most experienced visual boiler inspectors in the industry

Careers spent inside recovery and power boilers, not around them. The roots go back further than the company: the people who built BSI built boilers from the ground up and oversaw boiler work through the OEMs before BSI inspected its first unit in 1991. The report turnaround and the punchlist are what that experience produces.

A final report in days, not months

The complete final report lands while the outage plan is still being written. Mills set scope, order material, and decide where capital goes from a document they already have.

A punchlist the outage runs on

Findings do not sit in a PDF. Each item gets assigned to a contractor or to mill personnel and carries notes as the work progresses, so the mill can see what is closed and what is still open.
