About BSI

The company

It started with two people and a recovery boiler.

Andy and Denise Jones founded Boiler Services and Inspection, LLC together in 1991. Andy built the inspection practice in the field. Denise ran the company from the office. They built it around a simple idea: send experienced people inside the unit and tell the mill what is actually there.

BSI is a family company, and it has stayed one. Andy is still the face of the work in the field, where he has always been.

The experience came before the company did. The people that built BSI built boilers from the ground up and oversaw boiler work through the OEMs long before BSI inspected its first unit. Nobody here learned this trade from a manual.

Pulp, paper, and power run on the same kind of hardware, and BSI works all of it. The practice grew out from recovery boilers to the full range of units these mills run, power and cogeneration boilers included. Same inspectors, same standard. Today the team holds 100+ years of combined experience, and the BSI inspection force has worked units in 8 countries across three continents.

What BSI sells is third-party support that works for the mill: boiler inspection, quality control, and construction surveillance, with no repair contract of its own to protect. That independence is the whole value of an outside opinion.

The rest of the company grew out of the inspection work. Years of going inside units became a methodology for where to look and what to measure. That methodology became DATO, the data program. DATO needed software the industry did not have, and that became TRACE. Each one exists because the work asked for it, not because it looked like a market.
